People looking for an alternative to a scouting tool usually want one of three things: something cheaper, something that covers the players they actually watch, or somewhere to keep their own reports. The tools below do quite different jobs, so the right alternative depends on which job you need doing.
The Short Answer
Comparisonator and Wyscout are data and video platforms for professional recruitment. Transfermarkt is a public database for looking players up. Footy Contacts is a contacts directory. Football Benchmark is club finance and advisory work. Scout52 is where scouts write and keep their own reports: match and player reports on your phone, one record per player, lists, a depth chart and live analysis, from a free plan up to £19.99 a month, with club versions for academies.

Comparisonator Alternatives
Comparisonator is a recruitment data platform. Its site says you can compare, search and “virtually transfer” players across 271 leagues on several hundred data points, with similarity search, a written-analysis assistant, physical data for over 100 leagues, women’s football data and mobile apps. Plans are sold by the year: PRO at €14,000 for one user, Women and Mobile at €10,000 each, and a physical data add-on at €12,000.
Where Scout52 fits instead: if what you need is a place to record live and video scouting, Scout52 gives you match and player reports, one record per player with every report on it, lists and a depth chart, plus built-in player data and scores for the leagues it covers. Personal plans start free.
Where it doesn’t: Scout52 does not match Comparisonator’s league coverage, physical tracking data or similarity models. If you compare senior players across dozens of leagues every week, that is a data platform’s job.
Transfermarkt Alternatives
Transfermarkt is a German football website, founded in 2000, with market values, transfer histories, rumours, fixtures and a very large player database, much of it kept up to date by its community. Its market values are estimates, not fees.
Where Scout52 fits instead: Transfermarkt tells you who a player is. It is not where you write down what you saw. In Scout52 your reports, grades and opinions sit on one record per player, and you build your own lists and depth chart from them.
Where it doesn’t: Scout52 does not publish market values, transfer histories or rumours. Most scouts use both: a public database to look a player up, and a scouting app to record what they saw.
Footy Contacts Alternatives
Footy Contacts is a searchable directory of football industry contacts: scouts, agents, coaches, academy directors, club secretaries and press officers. Names and roles are free to view, and email and phone details are unlocked with credits. It has a free plan, then Starter at £19 a month, Pro at £39 and Agency at £149, and a feed of posted trials and jobs.
Where Scout52 fits instead: once you have made contact and are watching players, Scout52 is where the reports, player records and lists live.
Where it doesn’t: Scout52 is not a contacts directory and does not sell anyone’s contact details.
Football Benchmark Alternatives
Football Benchmark offers advisory work and an intelligence platform for the football industry, covering club finances and operations, social media, player valuation and youth football. Its site says it is managed by Ace Advisory, the team that left KPMG’s sports advisory practice in 2022. Prices are not published.
Where Scout52 fits instead: on the scouting side of a club: match and player reports, lists, depth charts and coverage.
Where it doesn’t: Scout52 is not a substitute for club financial benchmarking, valuations or advisory work.
Wyscout Alternatives
Wyscout, now part of Hudl, is a large library of match video and data across more than 1,000 competitions, used by professional recruitment and analysis departments. Plans are priced on request. Scout52 has no video library, so departments that rely on Wyscout for senior video will still need it. For grassroots and academy scouting, where there is little professional video, Scout52 is built for the scout at the side of the pitch. We compare the two in detail in our Wyscout alternative guide.
What Scout52 Does
- Reports on your phone: match and player reports, with clubs and teams picked from a list so nothing gets spelt three ways.
- One player record: every report on a player sits in one place, so you know who has watched him and how often.
- Lists and a depth chart: build your own lists and see your targets by position.
- Live analysis: dashboards update the moment a report is sent, with no spreadsheet export or refresh.
- Built-in player data: league player data with composite scores and playing-style archetypes.
- For clubs: a version set up with the club’s own report template, rating scale and age groups. See Scout52 for academies and clubs.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best alternative to Comparisonator?
It depends on what you use it for. Comparisonator compares players and teams across 271 leagues on hundreds of data points, with yearly plans from €10,000 (prices published on its site in November 2026). If you mainly need to record your own scouting, with match and player reports, one record per player, lists and a depth chart, Scout52 does that from a free plan, with built-in player data for the leagues it covers. Scout52 does not offer Comparisonator's league coverage, physical data or similarity search.
Is there an alternative to Transfermarkt for scouts?
Transfermarkt is a public football website with market values, transfer histories and a large player database. Scouts use it to look players up. It is not where you keep your own reports. Scout52 is: you write match and player reports on your phone, every report sits on one player record, and you build your own lists and depth chart. Most scouts use a public database to look up a player and a scouting app to record what they saw.
Is there an alternative to Footy Contacts?
Footy Contacts is a paid directory of football industry contacts (scouts, agents, coaches and academy staff), with a free plan and paid plans from £19 a month on its site in November 2026. Scout52 is not a contacts directory. It is where scouts record and organise the players they watch.
What is Football Benchmark?
Football Benchmark is a football business intelligence and advisory service for clubs, leagues, governing bodies and investors, covering club finances, valuations, social media and youth football. Its site says it is managed by Ace Advisory. It is not a day-to-day scouting tool, and Scout52 is not a substitute for its financial work.
Which scouting software is free?
Scout52 has a free plan with the grassroots report, overview, actions, a 52-week calendar and notes, and paid plans at £9.99 and £19.99 a month. Footy Contacts has a free plan for a few contact unlocks a month. Comparisonator offers a 3-day trial. Wyscout and Football Benchmark do not publish prices.
