The four kinds of scouting tool
Video platforms let you watch players you cannot see live: Hudl Wyscout for professional leagues, Veo for filming your own matches, Sportscode for analysts coding video.
Data platforms rate and compare players using match data: Hudl StatsBomb, TransferLab, SciSports and Comparisonator. They are strongest where the data exists, which means professional and elite youth football.
Scouting management tools are where scouts actually write reports and where a department keeps its players, lists and coverage: SCOUTASTIC, ScoutDecision and Scout52.
Market and discovery tools connect you with players or deals: TransferRoom for the professional transfer market, Grassroots to Glory for grassroots players posting their own clips.
Most professional departments use one tool from two or three of these groups. An individual or grassroots scout usually starts with a scouting management tool, because at that level there is rarely video or data to buy.

How to choose
If you are an individual scout
Start with something you can afford that builds a record of your work. Scout52's free plan covers grassroots reports, and Scout or Scout Pro add professional reports, player management and player data. ScoutDecision is worth a look if fully custom report templates matter more to you than price. You will usually only get Wyscout through a club or agency.
If you scout grassroots or academy football
At this level there is rarely video or data, so what matters is reporting at the pitch, one record per player, and knowing which clubs and age groups you have covered. That is what Scout52 is built for. Add a Veo camera if your club wants video of its own matches, and keep an eye on Grassroots to Glory for players posting their own highlights.
If you run a professional recruitment department
Expect to combine a video platform (usually Hudl Wyscout), a data platform (Hudl StatsBomb, TransferLab or SciSports) and one place for your scouts' reports and lists, such as SCOUTASTIC, Wyscout's Scouting Area, ScoutDecision or a Scout52 club set-up.
